An outdoor alfresco kitchen space offers a relaxing, open area for you to hang out and entertain guests. As an investment, you should carefully plan and consider every aspect to ensure you get the most out of your spendings. Because it’s so easy to find things that you should do when building your outdoor kitchen, we thought we’d enlighten you on what you should avoid so that you can give your alfresco kitchen the best chance to stand the test of time.
Enclosing the space
A huge part of your alfresco kitchen’s charm is its open-air and open spaced set-up. Enclosing the space not only defeats the purpose but also compromises your safety. There are strict regulations regarding appliances using LPG and natural gas in any enclosure. When you’re building your alfresco space, you have to remember the following:
- If the enclosure has walls on all sides, there must be at least one permanent opening at ground level and no overhead cover
- If the enclosure has an overhead cover, there must be no more than 2 walls
- If the enclosure has an overhead cover and more than 2 walls, at least 25% of the total wall area must be completely open, and at least 30% of the remaining wall area must be open and unrestricted
Choosing outdoor appliances & cabinetry
Outdoor kitchen appliances and cabinetry must be more durable than their indoor counterparts as they will be exposed to the elements. When designing your outdoor kitchen, we suggest that you choose the AlfrescoPlus waterproof outdoor kitchen cabinets and then check out the range of more powerful rangehoods and bar fridgeswhich are available at Bunnings, to suit our AlfrescoPlus kitchens.
Don’t settle for a cheap BBQ
The BBQ is the focal point of any alfresco kitchen which is why you should never compromise on its quality for something cheaper. If you do so, you might have to face more costly and difficult issues down the track if you end up needing to repair or replace it. This is why we recommend choosing something more reliable if you can guarantee quality and that it will last. Check out the range of built-in BBQs available at Bunnings to suit our AlfrescoPlus kitchens. They will not only look great in your space but will stand the test of time.
