Installing an AlfrescoPlus outdoor kitchen is a great way to entertain your guests – thanks to its sleek design, style, quality, versatility and functionality, it has the ability to enhance any outdoor space. To get the most out of your alfresco kitchen, and to protect the cabinets and barbecue from the elements and prepare for a seamless set up and installation, check out our pre-installation guide.
Plan the location of water, waste, power and gas services
It’s essential that the location where you’ll assemble your AlfrescoPlus kitchen is suitable for a seamless installation. Things to look out for include:
- A clean, level and suitable floor for the cabinet installation
- Water, waste, power and gas services in compliance with all required Australian standards (e.g. open ventilation and distance from combustible surfaces)
- Outdoor kitchen design and layout will dictate where all relevant water, waste, power and gas services are installed. All plumbing (gas, water and waste) and electrical work must be completed by a registered tradesperson.
Consider the ventilation requirements
Did you know that for residential premises, barbecues are certified under a domestic appliance standard and are classified as outdoor appliances? When you’re considering installing your outdoor kitchen, it must be open to natural ventilation to be considered suitable. If your alfresco does not meet the minimum ventilation requirements, it will be considered an enclosed alfresco space and you will need to satisfy additional requirements before you can install your kitchen. For all the information, we highly recommend referring to page 3 of our Pre-Installation Guide.
LPG Installations
It’s essential that in choosing to run your selected BBQ on LPG, you must check the ventilation of the gas cylinder in the cabinet when you install the BBQ into your AlfrescoPlus Outdoor Kitchen. It’s important to install a ventilation kit depending on your setup – it could be installed on the side, back or door of your BBQ cabinet module.
Installing Extraction Fan
A commercial style range hood/canopy must be installed right above the appliance for adequate ventilation, to meet the Australian standard requirements. There are many benefits to an extraction fan, for example it will remove harmful products of combustion and stop grease and smoke from damaging the alfresco walls and ceiling. Keep in mind the following points when installing yours:
- the extraction fan filter must not be closer than 1,200mm to the cooking surface
- We recommend the use of at least a 2 motor fan to achieve the required flow rate.
